Sylvan Ranch Community Garden

The garden started in 2005 as a vacant lot overgrown with weeds. This was the idea of Jeannie Bruins of the Citrus Heights City Counsel, and a few of us ran with it. Over the years we developed the site into what it is today. We are not through making improvements. We are limited by the funding that we are able to develop. We have grown from a few members to many and are still adding more garden plots. We have year round plots for those that join the garden. We also have a limited number of “summer/winter” plots for members that need or want extra growing space. The regular plot is a 4′ by 20′ space. Food is grown for personal use and is not to be sold.

We have some raised garden plots for handicap access. Many members have had their plots raised at their own expense because it make it much easier to garden.

We also have an area that we grow food for a food closet. We have been doing this for several years now.

We also have community areas that is for all members use. We have apples, plums, peaches, berries, and are adding others as we have funding.

Our monthly work day is the 3rd Saturday of each month, weather permitting. Come out and visit us and meet many of the members and see what we are doing.
